Newcastle United are reportedly considering a move for AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori as they look to strengthen their backline ahead of next summer’s transfer window. With the England-born centre-back approaching the end of his contract at San Siro, the Magpies could secure an experienced defender without paying a transfer fee.

According to Football Insider, Newcastle have been keeping a close eye on Tomori’s situation at AC Milan. The 28-year-old’s contract is due to expire at the end of the current season, potentially allowing him to leave the Italian club as a free agent. His uncertain future has opened the door for Newcastle to explore a deal that could represent excellent value for money.

Tomori’s role at Milan has changed considerably compared with last season, when he made 37 appearances across all competitions. Under new manager Ruben Amorim, the former Chelsea defender has reportedly struggled to maintain a regular place in the starting lineup, leaving his long-term future in Italy increasingly uncertain.

Newcastle could benefit from Tomori’s experience, having made more than 150 appearances in Serie A and featured 32 times in the Champions League. His pace, defensive awareness and ability to cover space behind a high defensive line could make him a suitable addition to Eddie Howe’s squad. His previous experience in English football would also help him adapt more quickly to the demands of the Premier League.

The Magpies are expected to consider defensive reinforcements as Fabian Schar and Dan Burn enter the later stages of their careers. Bringing in Tomori on a free transfer would offer Newcastle an opportunity to add quality and experience without committing a significant transfer budget. If he can rediscover his best form, the Milan defender could prove to be a smart and cost-effective signing for the club.
